The village beach resort of Dahab lies over 80 clicks north of Sharm el Sheikh on the Gulf of Aqaba. There are two parts to Dahab: in the new part, referred to by locals as Dahab City, are the more expensive hotels and bus station. The other part of Dahab, named Assalah, was a Bedouin village, about 2 km north of the town. Dahab is a great place to chill out if you are needing a place to relax and recover after a long journey. It make an ideal place to chill after crossing over from Jordan. A lot of wanna be hippies but at $4 US a night for a cabin you cant go wrong. Cheap huts, hotels and great food and drinks make this place a perfect place to unwind. |
| | Chilled out Dahab After loafing around, diving is the most important and popular activity in this town. The town's various dive clubs all offer the full range of diving possibilities, including camel/dive safaris. With so many places to relax and stay including the dozens of beach huts it is a natural staging area to relax after crossing from Jordan or continuing on to Upper Egypt. Two or three days in this chilled out town is a great way to get away from it all. The diving is absolutely amazing and you will see fish etc that you have never seen before. The water is crystal clear and worth the effort to get off your rear and away from the sheesha shops. |
