Everyone wants to see the Great Pyramids of Giza before he or she dies and rightfully so but in my opinion there are sights out there that are more impressive but not nearly as famous. In all fairness the approach to the plateau is one of astonishment because as you get closer and closer to the plateau your emotions start to race at the thought that you will soon lay your eyes on one of the most famous buildings every constructed by man. The pyramids especially Kufu (Great Pyramid) dominates the empty desert and after you go through the admission office and gates you are allowed to roam freely around the structures. You can't climb on them or go inside them (unless you are Egyptian or pay a fee for each one) but it is really fun to take some photos of the area. The surrounding area is almost surreal because the city creeps up on the plateau as though the city knows to keep its distance out of respect for the ancient pharaohs. The site of the massive city and nearby Pizza hut will not take away your excitement because face it . . you are standing next to the Great Pyramids ! and I am sure you will be impressed ;) |
| | The Views The actual site of the Giza Plateau is a bizaare one because tv shows, documentaries and postcards always depict the area as a vast desert region but what they dont show is that the Pyramids and Sphynx are situated not far from greater Cairo. The area is a sprawling place and quite a sight that most folks have never seen before in their lives. The sight of a city that is give or take 20 million is quite impressive in that the ancient city of Great Egypt has contorted and morphed into one of the biggest and multi dimensional cities in all of Africa. quite a sight. |
