Great views, architecture and traditions Wadi Dhahr is known throughout Yemen for its rock palace as well as the weekend wedding ceremonies. The wadi is around 15km from Sana'a and the Dar al Hajar stands in the middle of the Wadi. Before you decide to go down into the valley with your driver you should really take in the wedding ceremonies on top of the gorge. It is a really festival type atmosphere with families dancing and taking part in the rituals but dozens of other families go to take in the views and watch other people. Men offer children or whoever wants to a chance to shoot at targets for prizes while other boys walk around selling sweets. Men belonging to the wedding party dance with blades and machine guns while other men play the drums. The entire wedding scene is great fun and it was a privledge to just witness it. |
