Late autumn in the Summer Palace...no wonder poets and artists get so much inspiration from this place... brimming with nooks and crannies for contemplation (and lovers), it was one of my most peaceful days in this vibrant Chinese capital. |
| | Hutong in (dis)Repair By chance, we stumbled upon a courtyard house at a hutong close to the YongHeGong Lama Temple (subway station), the workers invited us in and gave us a fascinationg tour of the courtyard home...it was huge with several rooms, i can imagine how much fun it would be to live in such a home with loads of family intrigues...i heard that during the Olympics, some of these courtyard homes would be converted into 'family motels', i hope that i would have the chance to spend a night or 2..and enjoy the ambience. |
| | Warm comfort on a Cold evening The comforting feel of a hot sweet potato in your gloved hands as you walk along the streets of Beijing, that would be one of my distinct memories. The sweetness is not cloying, and the starch gives me the energy as i walk and walk...this city was so vast that we spent hours strolling along...my friend, Sach, is a native BeiJingren, and the stories she tells are simply riveting. Not just the usual history but of her childhood and her schooldays. |
