Welcome to Las Vegas...

An old and famous sign on the road to Las Vegas...
What can you say about Las Vegas that hasn't already been said? Yes, this is the adult playland destination of the world but there is a lot more here than that. To be sure Las Vegas is a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime but it is an even better place for an unmarried retired US Naval Officer such as myself to live!!!
The Las Vegas "Strip" at night

The world-famous Las Vegas "Strip"

The world-famous Las Vegas "Strip" is a 24-hour per day adult playground. Here you will find some of the best entertainers in the world as well as world-class ongoing production shows and restaurants. For a Las Vegas "local" this is considered the "expensive" part of town but for visitors there are many times great deals to be had.
The "Fremont Street Experience"

Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas is where it all started for this city's fame. Prices here are more moderate than on the "Strip" but generally the accommodations are a bit older. It is much easier to get around between casinos and other attractions Downtown than it is on the strip - walking is the way to go here.

The Colorado River, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead

For those of us that live here there are many more attractions than those the casinos offer - one all of us use a lot is Lake Mead. This lake was formed by building the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River just ouside Las Vegas. If you have more than just a few days - or hours - in Las Vegas this is a great place to visit.
Mount Charleston just outside Las Vegas

Mount Charleston

Mount Charleston is located just outside Las Vegas and might as well be in a different world. It is a real mountain so the elevation is much higher than Las Vegas resulting in a completely different climate - it snows here regularly and there is a thriving ski resort during the winter season. The temperature stays at least 20 degrees Farenheit cooler at all times on Mount Charleston than it gets in Las Vegas. There are several parks and two resorts located here - the resort in this picture is located about half way up and there is another at the top.
Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas

Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is a natural resource Las Vegas "locals" visit regularly. Here there are many wonders of nature - both vegetation and animal - to see and there are a great many horse, bike and hiking trails.
Entertainment in Las Vegas...

Entertainment

At one time or another every top entertainer in the world performs in Las Vegas. Some world-class performers such as Celine Dion and Elton John have ongoing shows here. Also at any given time there are many ongoing stage production shows available for your entertainment.
Gambling in Las Vegas...

Gaming

I saved the legalized gambling for last. Whether it's the table games, video poker or slot machines, live-action card games, or placing wagers on horse races or your favorite sporting events it is all here for you at any time of the day or night you might desire.
