I found my trip to Budapest to be a unique one, especially since it was the first time I'd been to Eastern Europe. It could feel a bit rough around the edges: drab communist-era buildings, pot-holed roads, old cars. But it also had its beautiful parts: parks, the Buda hills, grand buildings and bridges, the river. Since communism has left, capitalism has taken over in a big way. There were more American fast food places than in most American cities. Everyone, young and old, had a mobile phone. Shopping malls were popular. It was an interesting mix of old and new, and we had more than enough to see and do in the week we stayed there. |
