Back to Florence

by m-gem - last update: Jun 14, 2006

After a visit to Bellagio, we went to Florence for about 3 days. I had been once before in June 2002, but I went on my own (and was subsequently hit on by Italian guys for a couple of days) and it was about 100 degrees F and I didn't have good shoes to walk in so I got some bad blisters on my feet. So this time Onno was coming with me and it'd hopefully be cooler. It was, but I was less charmed by the city this time, despite the fact that I was so damn hot the last time. Partly it was all the tourists, who were mostly American, partly it was realizing that there is hardly any greenery in the city and after Lake Como, Florence felt dirty and crowded and brown. We had a good time overall, but we didn't do much; our main activity was people watching on the Piazza della Signoria. And eating gelato.

Pros:"Easily walkable, so much to see"
Cons:"Overflowing with tourists, so urban, no parks"
In A Nutshell:"Not as good the second time around"
