From the prairie to the Black Hills

by tarced - last update: Jan 13, 2006

We began our journey into South Dakota on the eastern side of the state. We had never experienced the prairie before and finally understood why those who had were so enthralled by it. It seemed as though there was always a wind moving the prairie grasses and we cherished this sound while we were there. While in the eastern part of South Dakota, we discovered what pioneer life was like in De Smet, the final home of the Ingalls family. Our two boys found out hands-on how the pioneers lived and are still interested in this part of U.S. history. My husband (who wasn't overly thrilled to come here) really enjoyed his time here as well and learned a quite a bit about pioneer life.
