Beautiful, wild nature with great scenery

I really enjoy mountain hiking and this area is one of the many favourite spots I have in Norway. From the small industrial town of Sunndalsøra you take the Aursjøvegen road up to the Aursjø Dam and drive further into the landscape, to take the road down the really steep, dramatic and rapidly declining moutainside ending in the town (or group of houses rather) Reitan which is lying at the end of Eikesdalsvatnet and at the bottom of the Mardalsfossen (Mardøla) - which is the waterfall with the highest drop in Norway - approximately 655 metres. The team at the World Waterfall Database rate this as amongst the top ten waterfalls in the world to see. Check out the link below.
I smashed my camera here as I was climbing the mountainsides to take some hopefully great pictures of this increadible landscape - and therefore you need to rely on the below links to see some pictures. The one below is the last before my camera got smashed from a drop of some hundred metres.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Great, great, great
  • Cons:The road is really bumpy and can be dangerous if you don't keep your eyes on the road - upside - not many tourists go here
  • In a nutshell:Sunndalsøra itself isn't very exciting - but check out the surroundings!
