No other place like Achill Island Achill Island, is an out of the way place that many don't take the time to visit. It has no tourist traps so to speak, just miles of remote barren loveliness and unbelievable rough seas. It might be one of the few last pioneer areas in the world. Achill island is not for you if one is looking for fast adventure and night life. This is a backpacking paradise, hill climbing, walking, photographers paradise. I could live here. Check out the "Wild Haven" Hostel" on left just after you cross the bridge. Near Achill sound. |

ggregg Sat Apr 19, 2008 18:03 UTC Your description is right on! We will live there as soon as we can retire. My wife's mother was raised there, we bought a sea-side family cottage, and did a major renovation. We go twice a year (from St. Louis), and otherwise rent it out for "holiday." | globetrott Wed Apr 19, 2006 21:18 UTC I love that opening-picture, it describes so well the quiet landscape of Achill Islands ! | voicebuilder Sat Aug 27, 2005 23:26 UTC Sounds like an enchanting place. Thanks for the info. |
