travelling by train and public transport

by train from Jordan to Syria

An experience not to be missed. We boarded the train in Amman with one minute left to get tickets, have our passports checked and get aboard. We travelled through most wonderful pasture in a carriage nearly 100 years old. It goes without saying that instead of modern AC the window panes were missing. We were actually asking ourselves whether Lawrence of Arabia could have been on this train.
It took 12 hours to arrive in Damascus but was worth every minute of it. We would highly recommend it, if you wish to get the proper train feeling!
Hussein on Zenobia

on camelback

It is their easy way with Camels which makes a trip through the desert, through the ruins in Palmyra or anywhere else such an enjoyable experience with the bedouins. I for one was spoilt for choice between riding Casanova, Julia, Zenobia or Lelah.... At about 4 km/hour its a speed which I enjoy and allows me to gather my thoughts and fully appreciate the colour kaleidoscope of the desert

Ursule, this is exactly the way I love to travel. Meeting locals is so rewarding. Happy birthday from Finland!

I agree completely. To meet local people is important for me as well. it’s a pity - I didn’t try Syrian train. I like the syrian street food.
