A Brief History

University of Bonn
Bonn is situated approximately 20 kilometres south of Cologne on the river Rhine. During the period 1949 to 1990, Bonn was the capital of West Germany

Bonn dates back to Roman times during which time a link across the Rhine was made near to a place called Bonna.
Eventually, this small camp grew to accommodate 7000 legionnaires turning it into a town that remained after the exit of the Romans.

A Romanesque style Munster (Cathedral) was built and in 1597 Bonn became the capital of Cologne. This exacerbated the growth of the city, more Baroque buildings were constructed, these structures giving character to the city.

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in the city in 1770

The French siezed the town in 1794 and became a part of the First French Empire.
In 1815 Bonn was siezed by Prussia and was relinquished only in 1945.

During World War II, Bonn was a Military Sub-area.

After World War II Bonn was in the British zone of occupation. During 1949 it became temporary capital of West Germany.

When East and West German reunited in 1990, it was Berlin that was made capital of Germany again. It took until 1999 for the entire ministries to move to Berlin.

The University of Bonn, with about 30,000 students, is one of the largest in Germany.

Wine drinking must be the thing to partake, and what a joy to sip so much down. Good presentation

Hm, it's getting embarassing for me -- everybody has their nice pages out and I don't even have a page up that's linking to them!
