Getting TO/AROUND: As everyone who has been to Venice rightly says, the best way to explore Venice is on foot. And man... you are going to do some walking!!!! But it's worthy! You will see so many canals and buildings and marvellous windows to last you a lifetime. Start anywhere and let yourself get lost in the small 'calles', turn left when you're sure it should be right - that's more fun. And don't worry you won't get lost.

Getting TO/AROUND: If you fancy riding the canals then buy a one day ticket (cheaper) and take a vaporetto. They are very quick, as quick as a small boat can be, but it will take you from A to B and C to D. They are fairly regular and easy to understand where they go to. There are route maps on any vaporetto stop.

Category: Airplane
Getting TO/AROUND: If you're flying from the UK and live near Gatwick, try booking an Easyjet flight to Milan - Linate airport - instead. From the airport you can take the STAM bus to Central Station 3 euros, and from the central station the trains depart every hour (5min past the hour) to Venice. It's a 3 hour journey and a return ticket costs 19 euros... Make your calculations and see how much you could save compared to departing direct from Stanstead to Venice... The flight is more expensive and then there is the time and cost of travelling to stanstead... If you are travelling over the weekend it's worth booking a seat on the train. On thursdays people from Milan and Verona start travelling to Venice for the weekend. On fridays expect to travel standing up and with no space to turn to... the trip to loo ? - forget it! you'll pee on your trousers before you get there...
