The Niagara Splendor!

by abi_maha - last update: Jun 23, 2009

Truly, no matter what your expectations are of the Niagara Falls rest assured it is much better than that! We were amazed at how beautiful a falls can be and truly only nature can create such a majestic sight! It is a treat to your senses and a paradise on earth!!
In the photo where we are standing taking the photo, is the US and the skyline on the other side of the falls is Canada, it's almost like the two arms of the falls- The American Falls & The Horseshoe Falls- are holding hands to keep the two countries together! What a sight!
Even as we entered the park and started walking by the river that was flowing, a sense of anticipation was building in us, however the actual sight of the falls and being able to get so close to it was a felling lke no other. Aj and I couldn't stop grinning and thanking our stars that we managed to do this together! :D It is little wonder that North America's favorite Honeymoon spot is right here at the Niagara Falls!
Horse Shoe Falls

Some facts

Niagara Falls is composed of two major sections separated by Goat Island: Horseshoe Falls, the majority of which lies on the Canadian side of the border, and American Falls on the American side. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the main falls by Luna Island.

Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly-formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean. While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are very wide. More than six million cubic feet (168,000 m³) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow, and almost 4 million cubic feet (110,000 m³) on average. It is the most powerful waterfall in North America and arguably the most beautiful falls in the world!

There are power plants that draw energy from the falls and we were told that most of NY states power supply comes from here. What is truly great about this falls is the accessibility that has been built around it, I mean in India there are many falls higher than this but none that are so accessible to us! We can only view them from a distance. Getting upclose to a fall of this magnitude was an unforgettable experience! This pic is not our's as we were on that boat and we didn't have a canadian visa to be on that side of the falls . However we did see the horse shoe falls from that boat and that was in itself awe inspiring!

Falls at the night

This was like being in a dream, the falls makes a spectacular backdrop for some awesome fireworks in the night. The falls is lit up with some 6 color lights making it seem more surreal than ever before. We spent a good two hours here and got some good videos and photos thanks to a very generous gentleman who gave up his prime spot to make room for us! :) I have put up the video of the fireworks. Do see the same if it will interest you :)

Hi Abi - really great photos! We had such a good time at the falls before we went to visit my husband's sister in Toronto. Loved Maid of the Mist.
