Florence in May 2005

getting there

Duomo & Battistery at Florence
we flew in from Franfurt. The wait for our luggage was almost infinite at the terminal! After nearly an hour and a half of waiting(during which time the officials at the airport were of no help!) we collected our baggage and took a bus from outside the airport to the central bus station- SM Novella. From here the place we had booked into- B&B Peterson was very nearby, so we walked down to the lodge.
From ponte alle gracie

Our stay

We visited Galleria Accademia on day one and Michelangelo's David is truly awe inspiring! Unfortunately we are not allowed to click any snaps:-( I was glad I had prior reservations to the Galleria, though it cost us a little more than general entry (we paid Euro 11) it gave us entry pretty quickly.
One thing we learnt in Florence straight away was that we were not gooing to have any problems getting vegetarian food:-) it is amazing how it is so easily available!
From here we strolled to the S. Lorenzo open 'mercato'. It is worth a visit. After lunch we went to Palazzo Vechio-the courtyard is so pretty!. Then caught a bus to S.Michelangelo to catch the sunset. This was truly superb! Well worth the wait!
The second day we took a bus pass (Euro 4 per head) and travelled within Florence quite a bit. We went to Ponte Vechio-it has some amazing jewelry shops!-We reached Palazzo Pitti too late:-( But the bus map is awfully complicated and we boarded bus # 23 to take a two hour ride to the Mukki dairy way outside Florence!!

Sorry about the accomodations! Doesn't seem like the normally friendly Italians at all!

It was a very expensive city...The meal was too measely for the price(check the home photo on Florence)...but it had to rate among the best places I have ever visited.

So you did not ask and were taken for a looong ride out of the city? Still worth it for four euros I guess!!! But Florence is easily walkable, why take a bus anyway?!!! Brought back fond memories of my visit a few years ago.
