Variously known as "Pearl of the Orient" and a "Tourist Paradise", the state of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan.
The magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples, churches and old houses have made Goa a firm favourite with travellers around the world.
But then, Goa is much more than just beaches and sea. It has a soul which goes deep into unique history, rich culture and some of the prettiest natural scenery that India has to offer.
We were a gang of girls who headed off on a trip from bangalore to Goa along the coastal line of Karnataka in Aug 03! With no reservations or bookings we managed the entire tip with overnite stays at one or the other of our relatives or frinds who were staying along this coast! We literally were bus hopping from one place to the next and stops at Bethgare, marawanthe, Karwar et were awe inspiring! When we reached Goa we had seen so many beaches that visits to the famous beaches were by then a matter of habiT!
Wanting to do something special for the year 2000 New Years I headed off on a trek in Goa conducted by the Youth Hostel Association of India. Most of my memorable treks have been thru this organisation, with the quality of their service being superlative and the safety for lone girls being impeccable! As I was wondering how one could possibly trek on the beaches of Goa, this nine day experience turned out to be a dream as they took us thru the Doodhsagar, mahaveer ntional park and more for an unforgettably different experience of goa.

An interesting page about one of a place I hope to be able to visit myself some day !
This place looks absolutely beautiful. I always see the recent ads on the Travel Channel and I was wondering where in the world it is. Then 1 of my friends went there for Vacation in September and then only I found out it was in India :-D
Nice tip on Basilica and Mangesh temple. I had been to Goa six times those pics need to be transformed into digital. I think I should do it to build a page on Goa. Very well written page.
Beaches are not my kind of thing-but the churches in Goa are very inviting...In recent times Goa has been in the news for the wrong reasons.
