My first experience of an arab city which has not been westernised. We were lucky enough to stay at the Al-Saraya hotel and meet Fayaz who made us welcome on the trip. Anyone who goes must stay in downtown, not in the posh new areas. Downtown is a mixture of markets, history and welcoming locals. You must try walking into a local restaurant and try local food (of course halal and probably fresh!!!). Also don't forget ear plugs, the morning call to pray is like something out the movies first thing in the morning, but it does get frustrating after a couple of nights. |
