Cologne was originally founded by the Romans and is one of the oldest settlements in Germany.
The one thing worth seeing is the monolithic gothic like cathedral that towers over you once you exit the train station.
The atmosphere is very slow paced. The town is clean and well kept, and the people are very friendly and helpful. The whole time we were there (a whopping 4 days!) it was very cloudy and overcast. Luckily, the sun decided to pop out the day that we were leaving, giving me the perfect oppurtunity to take this great picture!
In my opinion, there really isn't anything to do here, so my suggestion to you would be to jump off the train, take a quick photo of Cologne Cathedral, and then hop right back on to the train and continue on to your next destination.

Cologne Catherdral is so..huge, no matter how I angled the camera, I just could not fit the whole building into the picture. I know you can get some great shots from a distance. But up close, no way.
