"A technical museum town in the middle of nowhere" Hermeskeil by Airpunk

Hermeskeil

I have to admit that I have not visited the town of Hermeskeil itself. My only reason to go there was to see one of Germany's largest aircraft collections. Unfortunately, Germany is not blessed with good civil aircraft museums and even their best are not well presented. Hermeskeil is no exception and although the "Flugausstellung Junior" has the one or other interesting aircraft, it is far away from being a Duxford or Aviodrome. Almost all aircraft can not be seen from inside, sometimes a peek into cabin and/or cockpit is allowed. More details about the museum are found in my tip. For information about the aircraft, check out my travellogue.
Hermeskeil would not be known beyond regional borders, if it wouldn't be for three technical museums: The mentioned "Flugausstellung Junior", a railway museum and a fire engine museum.

Pros and Cons
