After Riga and Jurmala, Sigulda is probably the third most popular tourist destination in Latvia. It is well known for its castle ruins and the unspoilt nature. While there is a scheduled bus service between the castle of Turaida (surely the most beautiful of them all) and Sigulda’s town center, this destination is more for people interested in long walks. Beside Turaida castle, a red brick struckture with its origins in the 13th century, there are two castles at the northern end of Sigula and Krimulda castle between those and Turaida castle. Two caves close to Krimulda castle are also worth to mention. I would recommend a whole day to see all the places.
Sigulda itself has not much to offer. It is a small health resort with around 11 000 inhabitants. It serves as a gateway to the Gauja valley.

Lovely start here. Unfortuntaly, I missed Sigulda on my two trips to the Baltics.
