Neolithic Avebury

by Airpunk - last update: Sep 4, 2006

More stone circles...

The world's most famous neolithic stone cirlce is Stonehenge, but just a few kilometers away, you will find Avebury. This village with its neolithic monuments has become the second most popular destination of this kind. The big advantage is that it is not so crowded. But you don't have the facilities you will find at Stonehenge - especially information is lacking. That means that you have to do your own researches or the you depend on a guide, if you would like to know more about the stones.

Some people prefer Stonehenge, some prefer Avebury and the discussion about that is almost as old as the one about the function of these stone circles. However, I think that both are hard to compare. Try out both and find out for yourself which place you prefer.

Pros:"Not as crowded as Stonehenge, you can come close to the stones"
Cons:"In the middle of nowhere, no information for visitors provided"
In A Nutshell:"Another unsolved mystery"

A very impressive page on Avebury, including your excellent Intro facts! It was nice to see what these standing stones look like in summer, since things were a bit bleak when I was there in early winter. A first-class page!
