The world's most famous neolithic stone cirlce is Stonehenge, but just a few kilometers away, you will find Avebury. This village with its neolithic monuments has become the second most popular destination of this kind. The big advantage is that it is not so crowded. But you don't have the facilities you will find at Stonehenge - especially information is lacking. That means that you have to do your own researches or the you depend on a guide, if you would like to know more about the stones.
Some people prefer Stonehenge, some prefer Avebury and the discussion about that is almost as old as the one about the function of these stone circles. However, I think that both are hard to compare. Try out both and find out for yourself which place you prefer. |

Bwana_Brown Sun Sep 24, 2006 18:09 UTC A very impressive page on Avebury, including your excellent Intro facts! It was nice to see what these standing stones look like in summer, since things were a bit bleak when I was there in early winter. A first-class page! | uglyscot Sun Sep 24, 2006 09:01 UTC Another interesting page that brings back FAINT memories! |
