The city seen from the airport...
Coventry is not among the most popular destinations in the UK and compared to other places on the british isles, there is not as much to see. However, if you are interested in transport, there are a couple of things to see and do here, including some museums and an airline flying vintage aircraft. Beside that, the cathedral and a handful of spots in the city center may attract the one or other visitor. My reason to come to Coventry was an event which took place on July 15th 2008. It was the last commercial passenger flight of a DC-3 in the United Kingdom. Because of this, I spent most of the day at the airport and so my information I can give you about the city itself is limited. The few things I saw are shown in my tips, details about the DC-3 flight are shown in my travellogue.
...and from the Cathedral

The usual facts and figures stuff

1043 is marked as Convetry’s founding year when the Earl of Mercia founded an abbey on this spot. In the 14th century, Conventry grew into an important trading place and received city rights in 1345. The industrial revulution gave another boost to the city’s economy and later, car manufacturers sttled down here. 1940 was a turning point in Coventry’s history when the city was bombed by Nazi Germany, destroying the cathedral and parts of the old town. After WWII, the fortune was not so kind to Coventry, especially when car manufacturers moved out of town. Currently, no assembly line for cars is active in Coventry with only parts being manufactured here. A power plant, built in the late 20th century brought some relieve and some new jobs but had not the expected impact on economy. Warwick University, a renowned University with its seat in neighbouring Warwickshire, has always been a bright spot in this area.
