City of Vantaa was founded as late as 1974 but, however, they celebrated their 650th anniversary in 2001. The area was inhabited already about 7000 years ago, so who can say which anniversary they should really be celebrating? This town doesn't have one main center but rather it's a number of villages scattered around quite a vast area (see this map link http://kartta.vantaa.fi/). The town council is situated at Tikkurila. In addition, the main villages include Myyrmaki, Korso, Koivuhaka, Martinlaakso and Varisto to name a few. Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport is also within the city limits. There are about 190 000 inhabitants at Vantaa, which makes it the fourth largest town in Finland.
I have made separate pages dedicated to Tikkurila for I think it is more logical to handle this village as an entity. |
