This is a marathon race on the famous Formular One racing track called "Nuerburgring", also known as the Green Hell. Two cycling worldchampionships already took place on this track with climbs of up to 18% steep. On the downhill part of the "Fuchsroehre" you reach a speed of more than 100 km/h - even during rainfall I reached 86 km/h with 20mm thin tyres on slippery wet asphalt. After several rounds, each one of 20km plus 3km of the new track, youll find a new definition of pain;-) In 2004 you could choose between a 24h race (as a single or team rider)where you have to do as many rounds as possible, or you take a distance of 3, 5, or 6 rounds (only single rider) which you have to do as quick as possible. I took the 5 rounds which are 115km - doesnt sound much, BUT each round has an altitude difference of 500m. That means you climb 2500 vertical meters with some very steep parts. That is more than climbing the Col du Galibier during the Tour de France....... maybe that gives a better impression. But it is a great track, you love and hate it at the same time! |

Die Hohe Acht mit 18% Steigung im Schlussanstieg A good reason to climb this part each time was the food station on top of it..... a good motivation ;-) But just grab something to drink, you cant eat with that heartbeat after the climb anyway. | | |
