A lovely town to visit. The bus from Osaka takes 10 hours so you arrive around 8:30 in the morning. You can wander around the old samruai city, or better yet rent a bicycle and bike around, you can see more, faster.
Take a ride up highway 191 and visit the Seaside Market for a taste of the local delicacy, uni in japanese, a sweet tasting shell fish.
If you go further up the road towards Mt. Kasa, visit the Hagi Brewery and taste the wares and take your bike up the moutain and visit the Grove of Camellias.
It is definitely worth the trip. If you have the time and inclination, definitely visit one of the onsens in the town, it'll make your visit that much more memorable.
- Pros:most things can be seen in a day or two
- Cons:you may run out of things to do quickly, be creative!
- In a nutshell:well worth the visit
