"The Beautiful Village of Dorchester-on-Thames" Dorchester by King_Golo

Dorchester Travel Guide: 20 reviews and 39 photos

Dorchester is a small village about 10km from Abingdon and 15km from Oxford. While it is rather sleepy nowadays, it was an important centre in Great Britain in the Middle Ages. Pilgrims from all over England came here to see the remains of Saint Birinus that were then kept in Dorchester Abbey. Nowadays, the abbey is gone but there is still a remarkably huge church. Moreover, the vicinity of Dorchester is very inviting for a picnic or a hike along the Thames.
