Isla de Tenerife Travel Guide: 1,401 reviews and 2,928 photos
My wife and I flew to Tenerife to escape the grey English pre-spring season and soak up the sun. Unfortunately, we only stayed for a week - had we known how multifaceted its landscape is, we would have stayed longer. There are mysterious misty bay tree forests, gigantic 500m high cliffs, desert-like cactus-covered plains, black-sanded beaches, incredibly deep canyons and much more. Above all towers the magnificent snow-capped volcano Teide, at 3718m Spain's highest mountain.
Our holiday consisted mostly of getting to know as many facets of Tenerife as possible. We went hiking in the bay tree forest and on the volcano, climbed down and up the famous Masca gorge, had a swim on the beach and drove through millions of switchbacks.
The evenings were reserved for the Canarian cuisine: yummy tapas, tasty red wine and several culinary surprises such as "skewer on the gallows". Altogether, it was a great, albeit a little short holiday and the memories of this beautiful island will stay in my mind for a long time.
- Pros:a wonderful place for a hiking holiday
- Cons:too many tourists in the towns and villages
- In a nutshell:Viva Tenerife!
