Peggy's Cove Travel Guide: 68 reviews and 285 photos

Peggy's Cove is proud home to the world's most often photographed lighthouse - I don't know who counted the number of photographs taken, but I immediately believe it. Despite the village's only 40 inhabitants, several hundreds or thousands of tourists visit it daily just to take a picture of the oh-so-famous lighthouse. I thought that this would be a tourist trap par excellence and had more or less decided on visiting only shortly, but of course Peggy's Cove's charme captured me immediately...

By the way: Peggy really existed! A small plaque close to the VIC tells you, how the village got its name. Peggy was travelling to Halifax by boat to meet her future husband when the ship sank on the rocks in the cove. She was rescued by people living there and given her nickname "Peggy of the cove". Whether she still made it to Halifax to meet her fiancé I do not know... maybe she too fell in love with Peggy's Cove?

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A picturesque place like hardly any other
  • Cons:Hordes of tourists
  • In a nutshell:More than the lighthouse - go and discover it!

Nice start on a picturesque, out-of-the-way place.
