Annaberg-Buchholz Travel Guide: 60 reviews and 389 photos

Annaberg-Buchholz is a small town located in the Ore Mountains near Chemnitz. It was founded in the early 16th century when silver ore was found nearby. Before, there were only hills and forests in this area. Annaberg grew quickly and eventually became the second biggest town in Saxony. Nowadays, it has long lost its importance to cities like Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz or Zwickau. It's still a pleasant place - laid-back, surrounded by the beautiful Ore Mountains and full of history which you can explore when visiting St. Anne's Church or a local ore mine.

Browse through my Annaberg tips, visit nearby Chemnitz, Freiberg, the lovely water castle of Klaffenbach or Augustusburg and its castle - or continue your virtual tour of my pages here!

That guided tour of the Markus-Röhling-Stollen sounds really interesting.
