Annaberg-Buchholz is a small town located in the Ore Mountains near Chemnitz. It was founded in the early 16th century when silver ore was found nearby. Before, there were only hills and forests in this area. Annaberg grew quickly and eventually became the second biggest town in Saxony. Nowadays, it has long lost this importance to cities like Leipzig, Chemnitz or Zwickau.
When in Annaberg, make sure you visit the Markus-Röhling-Stollen and the church St. Annen.
