| Me and Bad Schandau (view from Lilienstein) |
Close to the German-Czech border, River Elbe flows through the so-called Elbsandsteingebirge, a hilly region of rough sandstone rocks. This region is one of the most beautiful places in Saxony and a must-visit! Numerous cliffs and rocks provide an incomparable scenery in which one can go hiking or rock climbing, or just enjoying the breathtaking views (especially in autumn when the air is clear and the trees change their colours...) |
My favourite place is the Lilienstein Rock which is located just next to Bad Schandau, a small town in the area. Lilienstein is pretty tough to climb - although there are paths leading up from several directions. But they are pretty steep and demand some strength. Rock climbing on this particular rock (and numerous others) is possible, but I've never tried it. Lilienstein is situated next to River Elbe, and, sitting on top of it, you can watch the ships passing by and the long trains on their way to the Czech Republic. |
