LAgos is a blackhooooole....you go there expecting to stay a couple of days and you end up staying for weeks, and are tempted to stay for months....lagos is amazing... it is touristy, but in a different nature than the usual idea of touristy. the tourists are young backpackers that love to travel and surf. its not like the tourists you see in florence, loading and unloading from buses...they are just looking to relax on hte beach during the day and party til the wee hours at night. lagos is pretty small town, that is littered with sunworshippers and backpackers, i felt like i was at some international convention when i visited....except for the fact that there is not much more than the beach, bars, and good restaurants...fine by me. dont get me wrong there is lots of portugese culture here, but if you are coming for a historical/cultural experience you wont find much in lagos. here the cliffs drop off into the ocean and turn into intricate grottos and underwater caves, perfect for swimming, kayaking through. there are also good places to go cliff diving here....
i loved lagos, we definately took extra time here, we fell head over heels for the beautiful beach and charming town, not to mention the beautiful people as well.... love the portuguese ! it seems like in this town everyone knows everyone else and its nice to stay for awhile and get accustomed to all the locals. to me lagos is a jem and the san sebastian of portugal .... |
