FOOD

I used the shopping tips section to show some of the unusual food we have here in the Philippines. I must admit it gets quite a bit of a reaction from the readers. Some of the food can be very unusual and gross. Hehe. Many of the "delicacies" in the Philippines, even I do not have the guts to eat. I think it is a good way to introduce your culture and way of life.. showing some of the eating habits of the people, whether good or bad. Kind of preparing would be visitors so they do not get so shocked.

So please be warned.... some of the tips are not for the faint hearted.
but for those with a fascination for the bizarre... well.. enjoy.

As of yet, the food listed in the shopping tips are:
1. Durian
2. Fishballs
3. Espasol
4. Puto Bumbong
5. Kulangot ng Intsik
6. Balot -
7. Boiled Talangka
8. Burong Talangka
9. Champorado
10. Chocnut
11. Shawarma
Bayawak
Under Local Customs Tips:
1. Butiki
2. Bayawak
3. Kamayan - how to eat with your hands instead of spoon and fork.

"Butiki" and "Bayawak" under local customs? I admit...kind of unconventional of me to put animal information under here but you'll understand when you read the tip why it is under local custom. well.. probably would be more appropriate to put these as "continuation of food".... intrigued?... then read on.

Where does the custom of raising the coffin for relative to pass under come from?

I've eaten many animals from this world and do agree that eating endangered animals is just WRONG ! On the other hand rattle snakes, snapping turtles, water buffalo, squirrel, red robins and even the crow are not endangered and are quite good eating !

Thanks for raising the point about not eating rare and endangered wildlife. I did try lizard here years ago, but won't be eating it again!
