I do not know much about Agoo except that everytime we go to Baguio, somehow, we always stop by Agoo for lunch. In this sense, you can say Agoo is a halfway point for Baguio and the other northern provinces. From Manila, you will come to a fork in the road that takes you to the road to Ilocos on the left and Baguio to the right. If you take the left fork, eventually, you will come to the town proper of Agoo where you will see the Agoo Church (Basilica of Our Lady of Charity) to your right. The Church is the main tourist attraction in the area. You will see why once you get a chance to view the paintings hanging in the church.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Charity looks quite recent. The "July 16" earthquake that hit Baguio also damaged the original structure. I even heard it on the news that big parts of the church collapsed or that the church itself was damaged beyond repair. I never saw the destruction for myself so I can not say really if the church now is a new structure or if it just had portions of it reconstructed. For a while, I thought the controversial paintings were destroyed but our recent trip proved otherwise. At least I hope this was still the original paintings hanging prior to the July 16 quake.
Right across the street from the Church, is the Agoo Civic Center. To the right of that is the Agoo Museum. I must admit, I haven't set foot inside the museum yet so I have no idea what to tell you to expect.
Continue along the main road and you will eventually arrive in the Ilocos Region. Ilocos is the Northernmost province on the west side of Luzon. But if you take a right turn at the church, it will take you to a road that cuts to the Baguio going road. This is also where you will find the big EAGLE monument that is the symbol of Agoo. I have a very beautiful picture taken of the eagle..... unfortunately, I lost the file... wahhhhhhh! And I even made a lot of fuss just so the car would stop and I could get out to take its picture.
Check out my "Inside Agoo Church" travelogue for pictures of the paintings hanging inside the church as well as pictures of the Church's interiors too.
- Pros:You can visit all in a day.
- Cons:If you are not religious, not much to see.

Hi!.. Im from Agoo and I appreciate how beautiful Agoo was projected in your site. By the way, it really is!.. =)
Bizarrely, probably the only church I've been into in Asia was here, one Easter. Stood out like a sore thumb and felt very self concious.
i remember agoo too... mainly because of judiel(?) and the site of the marian apparitions...
I remember Agoo well because of trips to Baguio, too. Now I'm trying to remember if it's also close to Caba, LU because we used to go to a beach resort there. May beach ba sa Agoo?
Thanks for this nice page!
