SECURITY REALLY IMPROVED and other Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Warning Or Danger Tips

One of your main concerns when you decide to come to Rio is the violence. Ten years ago i would strongly agree that it is something you really had to worry for. Nowadays the city and its population are much more careful about this matter, and the society is demanding more security, because we cannot stand so many problems.

We have deep social problems, but we are wroking out very ahrd to solve this problem. I, myself, are doing many social programmes in the Favelas, and each one is doing something.

You can see the ´police forces quite present all over, like this picture I took in Niteroi near the Modern Art Museum.

Of course you have heard that Rio might be dangerous, the streets are violent, you cannot walk in dark corners, Copacabana...UHHHHH...this is the siuth american Bagdah. People will attac you in red lights in the streets...The whole city is like THE CITY OF GODS!

Well forget all about this...Sure you can realize that it is like every big urban city in the world! You really have to take care when you walk in New York, in some streets of London, Rome and even in Toronto. We all have our social problems!

In Rio we are doing something, the society is reacting, the police is working hard and patrolling the main touristic area, we are training our policemen, and even enforcing the learning of english in our corporations!

And many women are now entering in our security corps, and with their kindness they are always trying to help and to make you feel safe each day more!

RIO IS CONCERNED ABOUT ITS SECURITY LIKE EVERY CITY IN THE WORLD, IT IS NOT THE PARADISE YET, BUT BE SURE WE ARE DOING SOMETHING!;)

Peak hours in the main express ways are between 7:00 am to 11:00 am and in the way back from work to home, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
I use the brigde almost everyday and I suffer alot during this time!

Places like NITEROI'S BRIDGE, AVENIDA BRASIL, ALL OVER RIO'S CITY CENTRE, BOTAFOGO AND COPACABANA!

AND NITEROI SIMPLY STOP IN THE MORNING AND IN THE END OF THE AFTERNOON!

I drive all around, so BELIEVE ME!!! :)

I know many beaches in my country and we are forced to walk on our bare foot, trails full of mud, but in this case the beauty you will see will make the sacrifice worthy, but this is me caught in a very bad moment in the rocks of Abricó beach!

Summer in Rio is not an easy task, you have got to be prepared for high temperatures, when my french canadian friend Pierre was here, in one of the afternoons that we were visiting Niteroi, well, this was the weather temperature at 2:00 pm!

Basically we use this tip to talk about something bad, it is not my intention...I just want to express that in spite of many social problems that we have, the sefaty authorities really try to be present and work for the community, they are present in the main corners of Copacabana, our main and most important touristic area and one of the most populated districts of Rio.

Some of them speak english, but do not think that all of them has english as a second language!;)

This corporation serves all over the State of Rio de Janeiro, now they are really better and concerned to provide safety and tranquility ot our population, and in a way, telling our visitors that they are present. It is not easy because we have many drug dealers in the favelas, and sometimes they declare war against the policemen.

But in the tourist areas, pay attention, they are always in many t-junctions and in the main streets of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, and they are also present in all over the city, in places that you will never go.

Rio has crime like very big city, but the authorities and the population is reacting and looking better ways to avoid and finish with this problem, one day we might do it!;)

In their corporation they have a service called TOURIST POLICE, and they are very useful to our visitors!;)

Every time when we travel, security is one of the main issue that we are worried about. Unfortunately, when we think about Rio, we think that it might be a dangerous place to be...NON SENSE!

We know that everywhere in the world we should be careful.

But also in every trip we make, we find great people, and in this case, I met someone special, almost two years ago..Iwas returning from a day in the beach in Niteroi, and such a fool I am, I simply forgot my bag full of digital cameras, my wallet with some money..ALMOST MY LIFE INSIDE THAT BAG...and when I realized it was too late...

Some days later, the phone rang...it was Maria, a single lady who found my bag, opened and did a real research in the telephone company in order to find my phone number, and she told me she had my bag and gave me her address. I went to her house, and I gave her 50 dollars..as I noticed she came from a very poor backgroudna dn every help would be fully welcome!

THERE ARE LOTS OF HONEST PEOPLE IN RIO DE JANEIRO!!!

A place where you cannot talk with your partner, friend or any other person, a place where talking in the phone even for business reason is totally forbiden..a place where the attendent (most of the time in the morning shift) treats you like garbage, he has bad manners and does not know how to direct you with kindness, actually he is as rough as any cave man who lived on Earth millions of millions years ago. And I know his name...HIS NAME IS JOHNNY...

The cyber café is called LOCUTORIO, it stands right on the corner of Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana with Francisco Sá Street, un the end of Copacabana beach.

Actually, it is the best place to stay in Copacabana, so this tip goes for people who really need internet and they just want a decent treatment, and unfortunately this place cannot provide.

THIS AREA OF COPACABANA IS ALSO KNOWN AS POSTO SEIS

AND PAY ATTENTION IN THIS NAME: LOCUTÓRIO - CABINES TELEFONICAS E INTERNET

SIMPLY AVOID THIS PLACE!!!
