if you get a chance, take a ferry boat to niteroi which is the city right across the bay. when you get there you can go to the museum of modern art which personally was very boring, but if thats your thing go ahead. you can take the 38 bus to itacoatiara beach. it is not filled with so many people like copa or ipanema, and is very nice. there are a bunch of little fish restaurants all across the beach and the fish is great!!! and very cheap... it was a luxury meal that was 7 dollars, which in the US would have been around 20 dollars. i did a lot of walking on the coast of niteroi and you can find many nice beaches as you walk like i did.
