"Powell Wyoming in The Big Horn Basin" rorbindo's Profile
Powell is a wonderful place to live and work. It is a small community of 5000 people in Northern Wyoming. Located in the Big Horn Basin there are mountains on three sides anywhere from 30 to 100 miles away. The town developed after a federal irrigation project in 1910 opened arid sage brush flats to farming.

Agriculture Continues to be a important factor in our economy. The main cash crops are sugar beets and barley. Ranching with cattle and sheep is also important.
The town provides medical care, schools, churches, and businesses for the area.
Northwest college provides many interesting areas of study as well as concerts, sports, and activities. Equine studies, Outdoor Physical Education, Geology, Graphic Arts, and Computer Studies are just a few. There is also an active foreign students association.

We are on the eastern approach to Yellowstone National Park, which is probably the only reason a tourist might pass this way. No matter what season you choose to visit there are a host of wonderful outdoor activities to enjoy.

Baseball ,softball, tennis, golf, cycling, and other sports can keep one busy all summer in Powell, The real goal however, is to pack the camper and head for the mountains. Up ther are great adventures, fishing hiking, climbing, boating, sailing, mountain biking and loafing.
A great time to snowmobile through Yellowstone, or just make tracks in the big Horns. Down Hill and Xcrountry skiing, ice fishing offer more diversion. Take a drive to check out the wildlife on the way to Yellowstone
Summer activities continue, while hunting for elk, deer, moose, sheep, and birds is added to the mix. Another great chance for a family outing.
Soak in one of the pools at the worlds largest mineral hot spring. Take a trip during the sholder season to other parts of the globe. Get out the golf clubs and shank a few.
