Silberhorn Hotel: Lauterbrunnen's friendly hotel

Interlaken is just a big town between two lakes and the jumping off point for many small but beautiful villages like Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. I recently visited all these places, not Zermatt, and would say that Gridelwald is getting too busy and congested. Lauterbrunnen and the Silberhorn hotel there are a good choice if you want a smaller picturesque place to stay. The hotel is rare in the fact you can park at the hotel. Zermatt is easy to access just leave your car at the central parking station and catch the train into the town. Can't say any of these places have great restaurants just reasonably good ones. The Swiss don't seem to have the flair for inventive food.

Unique Qualities: Well maintained, friendly, comfortable and parking is available. Well located.

Address: No specific just turn right at the bank corner and drive up behind the shops and Voila there it is.

Bernerhof Hotel, a Minotel member: Try and keeep out of the peak season

Centrally located with limited parking behind the hotel. We found the staff just perfect and so was the sumptuous breakfast each morning. I stark contrast to many swiss hotels. The breakfast room has a stunning view of the Eiger. I guess you would call it a 3 star residence.

Rooms are all immaculate, smallish but very well appointed. Ask for a balcony room, great for the Eiger View and for drinks at Sundown.

Unique Qualities: Location, attitude to guests, exceptional views

Comparison: less expensive than average

Price: US$80-120
