I am from Detroit and go back to visit a couple of times a year. People say there is nothing to do there. I always find plenty to keep me busy.
The city and suburbs are typically divided into East and West Side. The dividing line is Woodward Ave. This seems to sort of leave out the Downriver suburbs. Anyway people will refer to things as East side, West Side or Downriver. It will give you a good start to the location.
An easy way to strike up a conversation with a local is to comment on the weather. Good or bad people in Michigan always like to talk about their weather.
I think the city's reputation is worse than reality but the intercity decay can get pretty depressing. |
