I am referring more to Los Angeles County than the city proper. The county takes in the surrounding suburbs as well as the city.
I moved here in 1997. It seems the majority of people here have moved here from other states or countries. It makes for an interesting mix since if you can’t afford to travel you can always meet someone from another part of the world. You can also visit different neighborhoods that are heavily populated by one ethnic group or another for a taste of another culture. If you visit here and want to talk to someone from home, wherever that might be, I am sure with a bit of looking you could find someone.
The city is very spread out. It is not easy to get everywhere you want to go on the public transit system (Metro), you really need a car. Everyone needing a car makes for a lot of traffic. It really doesn’t matter what time of day or night you decide to go somewhere there is always some sort of traffic. If it rains (which doesn’t happen very much) it will be really horrible traffic.
The majority of people that love this place seem to base that on the weather. They hate cold and it doesn’t get cold here. If you are near the beach cities it always stays about the same. Being a weather broadcaster in LA has to be one dull job! |
