Nice place, clean, great food.
Favorite Dish: The pizzas are one of our favorite meals here all though we've liked everything we've tried. When we order pizza we each get our own & "if" there's left overs we take it with us for later. The pizza is super thin crust & cooked to perfection. They have so many varieties it's hard to choose.

Walter, the owner is a super great guy. Most times he would pull up a chair & sit & chat for quite awhile. We ate there a lot.
Favorite Dish: The chicken was good as was pretty much anything we tried. If you order the banana split be warned it's not like you'd get at home....it's a banana with ice cream & some greenery for decorative purposes. It's good, local cooking & a great place to people watch from.

The Restaurant Relax used to be right down town Cahuita. The first time we went to their new location I thought "wow, that's a long dark walk for the average tourist on foot". We drove so I can't say exactlty how far it is. The new building though is very impressive, the food is wonderful & I'd highly recommend it. The service was fantastic too & the staff was very attentive & friendly.
Favorite Dish: I tried shark (tibaron) for the first time...tastey. Everyone in our group loved their meals (marlin, tenderloin).
Address: On the main highway outside of Cahuita
Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Leave Cahuita, turn left & head towards Puerto Viejo....it's not too far but far enough if you're on foot. Take a flashlight.
Price: US$21-30

While the food can indeed be excellent, the service never has been. We had a relative of Miss Edith's that we know well, recommend we eat there. We did & we sure weren't impressed. We've tried it a couple of times more but honestly I'm not sure I would recommend it, not just beacuse the prices are higher but the crappy service. Miss Edith no longer cooks & isn't there much. Her daughters run the place mostly & they just don't seem to give a s**t whether you're there or not. We won't be back no matter how good the food is....there are plenty of other places that would appreciate our money more.
Favorite Dish: The "jerk" lobster or anthing "jerked" is excellent. I don't know if they still make them but the beetroot/ginger & other combos of juices are quite interesting.
Comparison: most expensive
Directions: walk down main street to the police station, turn right, walk towards the ocean & you'll find Miss Edith's. They just did a refurbishing of the building Dec. 2008.

Sol y Mar Rest./Hotel/Gift shop
The Sol y Mar is only open for breakfasts from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. & this is by far our favorite place in town for breaky. The meals are reasonable & the restaurant is clean. Upstairs they have hotel rooms & on the side is their Sol y Mar Gift Shop. All parts of the Sol y Mar are run by long time residents, the Fergusons. Walter "Mr. Gavitt" Ferguson the caribbean's most famous calypsonian lives next door to the Sol y Mar.
Favorite Dish: EVERYTHING is good!!! Try their breakfasr sandwiches....they are great for take out if you plan to walk through the National Park.

Natural Ingrid's
Ingrid's place is clean & the food is excellent. Ingrid herself is Columbian & her husband is Dutch. We became fast friends with Ingrid & she treats us like family when ever we arrive.
Favorite Dish: We like pretty much everything we tried except the "pulpo" (octopus) cerviche but that's only because we don't like octupus :)

This is a great place for Chinese food in Cahuita. Huge portions.....you won't leave hungry.
There are other non chinese dishes on the menu as well......all good.

The no-name "chikin' " shack
Don't let appearences fool you! The house may not look like much but the chicken was great! The woman has a deep fryer on her front porch & she cooks up pieces of chicken & serves it on a paper plate.
Addendum.....March 2007
I don't think food is served from this house any longer. It looked quite empty on our last visit.
Favorite Dish: The only dish appeared to be fried "chikin' ".............hot, deep fried & greasy but mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...finger lickin' good!
