Tourist Trap: African Souvenirs
  • Tip Rating:
  • I found that there were Africans selling their wares on the roadside, in markets and in stores. I thought that the cheapest souvenirs were bought from the roadside stalls. Of course a bit of haggling goes on. I was never good at that.

At Least Do This: If you get into an African Market and it seems as though everyone wants a piece of you, I found (was advised actually) that the best thing to do was to look straight ahead and keep walking. If you make eye contact, then the hard sell really starts.

    Tourist Trap: Sun City
  • Tip Rating:
  • I agree with Anton. You can find a Sun City in many countries, I think. I loved Pilanesberg and saw lots of animals.

At Least Do This: If you go to Sun City then be prepared to spend quite a bit of money if you want to gamble, or stay in the accommodation there.
Alternative: Instead I would spend a couple of days at Pilanesberg and see some of the sights around Johannesburg.
