Goa- beautiful, unique, a really great experience cause ppl from all over India come here so you get to see all the different kinds of cultures... very beautiful with the most wonderful ppl... Indian ppl treated me really wonderful for the whole month I was in India, Anjuna was great the village really gets exciting when its market day, ppl from all over come to sell all sorts of things, yeah some ppl say its more expensive at the market than at some other places but plz remember that some of these ppl have travel very far to bring their stuff to market, and some of the stuff sold here must have taken hours to make, and really the price low for the labour they put into it...I think. Even the stuff thats cheaper in Mumbai, had to be brought here from Mumbai via bus or train and some tourists who will not be stopping at Mumbai can at least have the chance to buy these things.
Although Goa unique and beautiful they do seem to have a serious problem with rubbish removal and really hope they get it sorted out soon, some areas very polluted with a bad smell, so plz be 100% sure where you will be staying, and although I have given lots info on budget options to stay..( I have not visited most of them, its just for info) and I would take best accom you can afford in India. If I ever return it will def be SELF CATERING, I was dreadfully ill my whole month in India, and I only ate food from good restaurants, and I am used to cooking my own Indian food, and used to spices..... so there are bugs out there your tummy may not be used to... ( like my poor tum!!)
I loved Calangute... it was a clean village, lots of tourists having a good time and locals were really nice, Many stood chatting to me for hours when they heard I am from South Africa.... Cricket... Cricket.... smile
I visited a local lake a bit inland, it was very beautiful, and couples could take a romantic ride on a small boat... ( WHY WAS I ALONE??????) well was just as good to watch those who were enjoying themselves.. The lake had tables where you could relax and have a drink...I did... and at entrance bought the most delicious lemon soda!! And with it I had Masala Chips... ( wish we got that flavour here in SA) it was delicious.
But it was a facinating, unique incredible experience, I travlled a lot in Goa, saw many places, the govt tours were cheap and fantastic, I did most of the govt tours and enjoyed every one. After doing a tour you can choose what you liked and what not and return on own steam to really discover...., I was lucky to have channel tv and loved to watch all the tv programs.. singing dances... amazing unique stuff... I can go back just to watch this again, but sadly few places have channel tv most have the cable tv with only a few channels... The boat tours from panjim.... a must!! I took one with dinner included... and the dinner was quite good., incredible views... They also have tours of the back waters..So when I think of Goa..... what do I think of? palms.... and palms hunderds of them, warm sea water, absolutely wonderful ppl, When I told ppl I was going to India alone for a month many said.. how can a older woman travel alone to India for a whole month...??? well I did and I never felt in any way that I was unsafe. There are the few things you have to watch out for( like in any country) and I must admit I didnt like the places that were not clean, but there was so much I did love about the country and I really hope to sometime visit Kerela......... lets hope
- Pros:unique, different, very friendly wonderful ppl
- Cons:some places very dirty, very polluted and smelly
- In a nutshell:PLEASE KEEP GOA CLEAN

Goa looks scenic but it sounds like you need a good supply of loperamide.
