Flowers Youth Hostel: Opposite train station Osmanphus Flower Hotel Guilin Review

This youth hostel is conveniently located opposite the train station but most of the sights are a far way to the north but buses run up and down the main road. I stayed here for just one night after I returned back to Guilin from Yangshou as I had a train to Nanning to catch in the morning. The room I had wasn't as good as the one I had at the Backstreet Youth Hostel as it was a lot smaller and had a squat toilet (which I hate). But the communal area at the Flowers is far better with 2 internet PC's, pool table, TV room and a cosy feel with large sofas. Staff are very friendly and the food is pretty good. I got a slight discount on my room down from RMB120 to RMB100.

Backstreet Youth Hostel: Great location in city centre

This is the best youth hostel in Guilin as I also stayed at the Flowers Youth Hostel when I arrived back from Yangshou. It's very well located on a quiet street near the river and the city centre where there are some good shops and restaurants. I arrived here early in the morning after arriving on the overnight train from Guangzhou and luckily they had a room. The room was large with two single beds with nicely arranged pillows on them and was clean and neat and tidy and was RMB110. The communal area has nice large sofas and tables and is a nice chill-out area plus the breakfasts are very good. The staff are friendly and kind and I booked two tours with them: the first was a day tour to the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces and the second was the Li River cruise - both of which were well priced and excellent days out. One of the best places I stayed at in the 3 months I was in China.
