"George Bernard Shaw's former home" Ayot Saint Lawrence by Willettsworld

Ayot Saint Lawrence Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 60 photos

Ayot St Lawrence is a small village near Welwyn Garden City in the middle of Hertfordshire. It's famous for being the village where George Bernard Shaw lived from 1906 until his death in 1950. His house is open to the public as a National Trust property. The village also has a very unusual church which was designed in a neo-classical style by Nicholas Revett and features a Palladian-style frontage with Doric columns. There are also the remains of a much earlier Norman church nearby. The village's one and only pub, The Brocket Arms is reputed to be haunted.
