Along the bathing area are loads of seafront restaurants and because Piran is a very popular place and because they all line the seafront, these places are not cheap. I came to this one as I think it was a cheaper option and had lunch but I can’t now remember what I ate! Obviously the menu is heavy on seafood such as Dorade, Bass, Sole (all for 8,000SIT), Lobster (14,000SIT!), Scampi (3,300SIT) and Squid (1,500SIT). They also do meat dishes such as escallops, rump steaks and mixed grills.

This is a nice restaurant overlooking the Marina where you get a lovely view of the boats and you can watch the sunset over the sea. The food here is a bit more upmarket than in other places in Koper. I had a nice scampi in pasta. Open:11am-10pm.

There are 3 or 4 restaurants in a row next to each other on the north side of the market along Hlavatyev Park just off Pristaniška ulica. They sell mostly pizza and other fast food such as breaded chicken, burgers, steaks etc and are very popular with families. The seats are comfortable and there are a/c fans in the ceiling to keep you cool. Service is a little on the poor side as you do have to wait a while. I came here for lunch and ordered a burger and fries but then no fries turned up with the burger and when they eventually did, I had finished my burger!

This restaurant is housed in part of the Town Hall and also there are tables in the courtyard. The reason I came here was that I saw a sign in the Town Hall passageway for a Thai restaurant. But this restaurant not only serves Thai food but they also serve an international cuisine from a whole host of countries that include Slovenia, Ex Yugoslavia, Italy, Greece, Japan, Austria, Thailand and Mexico. I ordered the spicy Thai prawn soup but when it came it didn’t have any prawns in it! So back it went and of course I had to wait a bit longer. The bread that came with the soup was large and round and hot like it had just come out of the oven. Very nice indeed. The main course was a Thai green chicken curry which was very tasty. All-in-all not a bad meal despite having to send the soup back!
Open: 9am-midnight Mon-Sat Closed Sunday.

Hot horse at BTC City
I've been to France where they eat horse but never fancied it and when I visited BTC City (large shopping district in eastern Ljubljana) one of the places to eat was this - Hot Horse. So I thought, why not give it a try! And I did and enjoyed it! The meat is quite like a steak and comes in a large burger bun with different sauces and salads just like any other burger. They do set menus but I was told that these are for students only.

The inside of this restaurant looks very Bavarian/Alpine and is popular with both locals and tourists alike (just look at the number of reviews on VT!). With this in mind I thought I'd give it a try and I had the mushroom soup for a starter which arrived very quickly in a roll with a lid. It was actually quite difficult to eat as you wanted to eat the roll at the same time as eating the soup and you end up making a hole in the side so the soup runs out! Anyway, it was different and fun at the same time. Then I had the Peasants feast which was very difficult to eat all of it after the soup as the meats - of which there's 4: black pudding, pork steak, ham and veal sausage are very filling plus there's also buckwheat, boiled corn and turnips. Take my advice and wash it all down with the house beer.

This pizzeria is well located right beside the river near Cobbler Bridge in a small square called Dvorni trg (hence the name). They have some 100 or more pizza's listed in the menu and so the place gets very popular so much so that people wait on the pavement in front for free tables. The service wasn't bad but I did have to wait more than 20 minutes before my pizza arrived which I think is a bit too long but considering it was very busy maybe not so.

This Mexican restaurant is located near the Opera house in Ljubljana and is probably the nearest place to eat if you're visiting the area where all the museums are located. I had the turkey salad, which even though it cost 1800 SIT, it was the best salad I've ever had and was huge (check out the photo!). I liked it so much that I visited the second time just before I flew back home and had it again! They also do the usual Mexican dishes such as Fajitas, tortillas, steaks etc so check out their menu on their website below.

As Slovenia was under Italian control, the Italians left behind their legacy of great ice cream which you can buy almost anywhere in the city centre. There aren't that many ice cream parlours but there are lots of stalls like this one. The ice cream tastes just like it does in Italy (which is the best in the world) but it is a lot cheaper. Go on and indulge yourself!
