The westernmost of the Cinque Terre or "five lands" region, Monterosso al Mare is protected by hills covered with vineyards and olive groves and is surrounded by vegetation. Its beautiful beaches, steep rugged cliffs and crystal-clear waters, make this one of the most charming resorts on the Ligurian Riviera of the east. The village dates back to the 11th century and is divided into the two settlements of Fegina and Monterosso, running along a perpendicular axis to the sea. |

iandsmith Mon Feb 9, 2009 01:13 UTC It must also be the northernmost of the five and that would explain why I missed it! Thank you for sharing. | barryg23 Sat Dec 10, 2005 22:24 UTC Great pictures of the Cinque Terre. This is one area I really want to see again. |
