Sousse Travel Guide: 329 reviews and 943 photos

Sousse is the third largest city in Tunisia helped by its location on the coast at the southern end of the Gulf of Hammamet where it enjoys fine long sandy beaches. These beaches provide the perfect location for tourists to flock too during the holiday season but there's a lot more to Sousse than its beaches. The city rose to some importance under the Romans and later became a major port under the Aghlabids in the 7th century. They built the Ribat, Great Mosque, Kasbah and walls of the Medina during the 8th and 9th centuries, all of which survive today. To me, the Medina in Sousse is better than that of Tunis as far as shopping goes. I came to Sousse from Tunis and used it as a base to explore the nearby sights in Monastir, El Jem and Mahdia.
