"Amber Fort" Amer by Willettsworld

Amer Travel Guide: 52 reviews and 316 photos

Amber, (pronounced Amer), is located about 11km (7 miles) north of Jaipur and is famous for the Amber Fort which was the Kachhawahas capital until 1727 when the ruler of Amber, Sawai Jai Singh II, founded his new capital at Jaipur. The old capital was founded by the Meena Raja Alan Singh and dates back to at least 967 A.D. Amber is nestled in a rocky mountain range and the views of it from the Jaigarh Fort, 400 metres above Amber Fort, are very scenic.
