"More easily known as Trivandrum!" Thiruvananthapuram by Willettsworld

Thiruvananthapuram (more easily spoken and known as Trivandrum), is the capital of Kerala and is located right in the far south of the state. The city had trading links dating back to 1000 BC but the city really started to rise when it was made the capital of the princely state of Travancore in 1795 when it was moved from Padmanabhapuram. The city then started to develop in the 19th century with schools, colleges, a hospital and museum which were given as part of the British legacy. These structures still stand today and they can be seen along MG Road which starts in the north of the city at the zoo and museum complex and ends 4km further south near the city's main temple complex, the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

I came here after chilling out on the beach in Varkala for a few days before moving on to the southern tip of India at Kanyakumari. Along the way, I stopped off for a visit at the Padmanabhapuram Palace - regarded as the best example of traditional Keralan architecture.
