FUJI CITY

by cheesecake17 - last update: Feb 23, 2006

Fuji, a city located at the southern foot of Mt. Fuji which is the highest mountain in Japan with a 3,776 meter (12,388 feet) peak.

To the north are the Ashitaka Mountains made up of Echizendake, Yobikodake, and five other mountains.

In the southern region a sandy beach stretches itself about 9 kilometers along Suruga Bay.

To the east extends an area called Ukishima Marsh. It is named after a marsh which existed there until recently.

Flowing through the western region is the Fuji River, known as one of the Rapid Three in Japan.

The paper and pulp industry has prospered since the middle of the Meiji era in the late19th century which is the largest in the nation.

Fuji City has become the second greatest industrial city in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Looks like I'll have to add Mt. Fuji to my list of "things to see before I die".

Very useful info! Didn't know that there are two meanings of Fuji-san. If I'm coming back to Japan in the summer, I'll definitely climb it!

I've always wanted to climb Mount Fuji (and to visit Japan). Hopefully one day!
